2 Things To Try When Your Garage Door Doesn't Work

Posted on: 15 December 2020

If your garage door isn't working, you want to make that problem go away as soon as possible. It can be a huge inconvenience to have that door not open or close and can cause problems, especially if the door is stuck in the open position because it can make it possible for people to get into your house or get to things that you store in your garage. There are some things that you can do that will help you get your garage door functioning before you call a repair company to come in and make it work.

Check the Wheels

You want to make sure that you check the wheels of your door. You want to make sure that they are straight in the tracks. If one of the wheels has jumped the tracks a bit or is in the track a bit crooked, then that can keep the door from smoothly going up and down. You should also check to see if there is anything that is blocking the wheels. Even a bit of debris that is in one of the tracks can keep the wheel from moving up and down in the track.

Check the Power Source

You should also check the power source to make sure that it's still on if you have a power garage door. Check the motorized unit to see if there is an indicator as to whether or not it is getting power. Check to see if it's plugged in and if your circuit breaker is on. If it needs to be plugged in somewhere, make sure that you check to see if the plug is loose in the outlet, because a loose plug will make it hard for a full circuit to be made, which will cause the unit to not get power. While you are checking everything to see if there is power, you should also check your remote and make sure that the batteries are still good. If it appears that the garage door only works sometimes, this could be why.

If your garage door isn't working, you want to get it working again as soon as possible. There are several things that you can do to check it out. One thing that you shouldn't do is try to mess with the springs. You have to have a lot of skill to adjust those because they are under a lot of tension and you could get hurt.
